Malaysian Breakfast

I've been away from home for almost 5 years (2007-2012), not realising so much had happened and changed while I've gone. After finishing with 2 loads of laundry yesterday morning, my husband and l decided to have breakfast at a hawkers stall few rows from our house. There are 5 food hawkers and 1 stall selling fruits and fried banana in the afternoon. The developer and the local authorities had no objection for street hawker building a proper eating place due to demand from the public resides in the housing area, Bandar Tun Hussein Onn (BTHO).

Fried Meehoon  and Fried Rice
It was almost 9.15am when we arrived. To my surprise, the crowds are amazingly encouraging matching the wide selections of breakfast that may be seen from the photos that I shared here. Wow, everybody really enjoying their weekends. It took me sometime to choose what I wanted to eat with so much choices, incomparable with my daily breakfast, OATS! Hubby said, do not worry about cholesterol today, there's a cholesterol pills at home.

Nasi Dagang
3 photos below are a selection of dishes that you can choose to go along with your "Nasi Lemak". Nasi Lemak is a very popular breakfast for Malaysian, being called as Nation Breakfast. The rice is cooked with coconut milk, onions, ginger and a Pandan leafs to give a nice aroma flavored rice. You may need to eat with Chili paste sauce, sliced fresh cucumber, fried nuts and fried Ikan Bilis. As for the est, you may choose either you want the following extra dishes to go along with your Nasi Lemak.

There's also a wide selections of dishes which are not as heavy as the breakfast rice. Malaysian are very famous for having dessert after their meal, which includes having dessert after breakfast. Very heavy indeed!

Laksam

Curry puff (we called Karipap)
Green Roll

This is another famous Malaysian breakfast, Roti Canai (similar to Paratha) invented by Malaysian Indian whose origins are from South India. As you are well known, Malaysia is a multi-raced nations and we, the Malays, the Chinese and the Indians are living in harmony as no more migration in a present days. We are all Malaysian as we born here. Anyway, there's a wide selections of Roti Canai that you may ask them to prepare - Plain roti canai, Roti Telur, Roti Bawang, Roti Boom, Roti Sardin etc etc. As my cholesterol level is READ as 6.4 on Thursday, I made a vow not to have Roti Canai until the number is drop.

What I chooses was "Nasi Kerabu", a breakfast from my native state, Kelantan. Nasi Kerabu is a normal rice cook with blue flowers to give a blue colored rice. It has to eat with coconut mixes with crush fish (and other ingredients) and small slices of raw vegetables, added with "budu" (fish sauce), chili made sauce, fish cracker. You may add other things to your liking like fried fish or grilled fish, grilled meat, salty egg etc. My husband chooses "Nasi Dagang", also a Kelantanese dishes. The rice (combination of glutinous rice and special Nasi Dagang rice imported from Thailand eat with special cook fish.

The row of shop in front of the stall has been there for more than 20 years. We have been staying in the neighbourhood since December 1993 when the house that my husband bought was completed. Nazhif was born the following year, 2nd March 1994 and this place reminded me of our 4 children's childhood. How times has fly!
