Galileo Galilei (1564-1642)

Josh Groban in his 2010 Illumination album has composed an imaginary love song that Galileo probably would written if he met someone meant to be his other half  “someone like you”. Who is this Galileo? None other than the famous Italian Astronomer and Philosopher, Galileo Galilei, born in the year that we saw the birth of Shakespeare, 1564 died in 1642 at the age of 77 in prison. First, let's enjoy a beautiful song by Josh Groban in below video:-

Galileo was put in prison by a Roman Inquisitorial commission who charged him on "vehemently suspect of heresy”. The Roman Catholic Church accused his teaching in contrary to the teaching of the Holy Scripture. Pope Paul V instructed Cardinal Bellarmine to deliver the inquisitorial commission finding to Galileo, and to order him to abandon opinion that the sun stands still at the center of the world and the earth moves, and henceforth not to hold, teach, or defend it in any way whatever, either orally or in writing (heliocentrism was physically true). It was on 26 February 1616, Galileo was called to Bellarmine's residence and ordered the judgement against him.

Galileo's championing of heliocentrism and Copernicanism was controversial within his lifetime, when most subscribed to either geocentrism or the Tychonic system. He met with opposition from astronomers, who doubted heliocentrism due to the absence of an observed stellar parallax. The matter was investigated by the Roman Inquisition in 1615, and they concluded that it could only be supported as a possibility, not as an established fact. Galileo later defended his views in Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems, which appeared to attack Pope Urban VIII and thus alienated him and the Jesuits, who had both supported Galileo up until that point. He was put on trial by the Inquisition, found "vehemently suspect of heresy", forced to recant, and spent the rest of his life under house arrest. It was while Galileo was under house arrest that he wrote one of his finest works, “Two New Sciences”. Here he summarized the work he had done some forty years earlier, on the two sciences now called kinematics and strength of materials.

A Roman Inquisitorial commission declared heliocentrism to be "foolish and absurd in philosophy, and formally heretical since it explicitly contradicts in many places the sense of Holy Scripture." The Inquisition found that the idea of the Earth's movement "receives the same judgement in philosophy and... in regard to theological truth it is at least erroneous in faith."

Galileo was found "vehemently suspect of heresy", namely of having held the opinions that the Sun lies motionless at the centre of the universe, that the Earth is not at its centre and moves, and that one may hold and defend an opinion as probable after it has been declared contrary to Holy Scripture. He was required to "abjure, curse and detest" those opinions.

He was sentenced to formal imprisonment at the pleasure of the Inquisition. On the following day this was commuted to house arrest, which he remained under for the rest of his life. His offending Dialogue was banned; and in an action not announced at the trial, publication of any of his works was forbidden, including any he might write in the future.

Galileo was not only an astronomer and a philosopher but also a physicist, engineer and mathematician who played a major role in the scientific revolution during the Renaissance time. His achievements include improvements to the telescope and consequent astronomical observations and support for heliocentrism. Galileo has been called as the father of modern observational astronomy, the "father of modern physics" and the "father of modern science".

His contributions to observational astronomy include the telescopic confirmation of the phases of Venus, the discovery of the four largest satellites of Jupiter (named the Galilean moons in his honour), and the observation and analysis of sunspots. Galileo also worked in applied science and technology, inventing an improved military compass and other instruments.

Galileo was never married. However, he did have a brief relationship with Marina Gamba, a woman he met on one of his many trips to Venice. Marina lived in Galileo's house in Padua where she bore him three children. His two daughters, Virginia and Livia, were both put in convents where they became, respectively, Sister Maria Celeste and Sister Arcangela. In 1610, Galileo moved from Padua to Florence where he took a position at the Court of the Medici family. He left his son, Vincenzio, with Marina Gamba in Padua. In 1613, Marina married Giovanni Bartoluzzi, and Vincenzio joined his father in Florence. Galileo's beloved elder daughter, Virginia (Sister Maria Celeste), was particularly devoted to her father. She is buried with him in his tomb in the Basilica of Santa Croce, Florence.

Nando's in Atria Damansara

I have shifted to my new office (permanently this time) beginning of July 2015. We were blessed as when the office was open after the renovation, Atria Mall has also open after being closed for quite some times to allow for modern refurbishment. There are more food outlets inside the mall. Nandos cafe happened to be there too. My boss is a big fan of the fast food, and though I'm not, we compromised. It was my first time on 12th July to have a quick lunch at Nando's with him before we off for a meeting. It was a long overdue visit after after my demobilisation from Karachi. Yes, there is Nando's cafe in Karachi too.

Happy Cheerful Nando's boy!
First and foremost, the interior decor of the restaurant has been upgraded to a deserving thumbs up rating. I for once was really impressed with everything new Nando has to offer, from the decor, the food and the warm receptions from their waitress.

Love this corner
Nando's is an international casual dining restaurant chain originating from South Africa, with a Mozambican/Portuguese theme. It was founded in 1987 and has been operates for about 1,000 outlets in 30 countries thus far. Wow, I only discovered this fact from the internet only today. How wonderful isn’t it? Nando's specializes in chicken dishes with lemon and herb, mango and lime, medium, hot, extra hot or extra extra hot peri-peri marinades. In some countries, Nando's has other flavour options to suit the local taste. Nando's has been established in Malaysia since 1998. As of May 2015, there were 69 restaurants operating throughout Malaysia.

Nando's specializes in flame-grilled peri peri chicken. The chicken is served in quarters, halves and whole. Nando's also serves burgers, pitas, salads, wings and wraps. In some countries, Nando’s sells chicken livers, espetadas (a large stand with a skewer of chicken breast and grilled peppers) and cataplana (a chicken and rice dish served in a traditional Portuguese copper dish).

An elegant counter
Peri peri, also known as African Bird's Eye chilli, is a variety of Capsicum frutescens widely grown in East and Southern Africa. Nando's products are based in one of four peri-peri flavours. For our information, Nando's has published a book about peri peri called Pain and Pleasure, the contrasts and contradictions of the African Bird's Eye Chilli.

The restaurant was founded in 1987 in Johannesburg mining suburb Rosettenville when a Portuguese-born audio engineer Fernando Duarte took his entrepreneur friend Robert Brozin to a Portuguese takeaway called Chickenland for a meal. After trying the chicken which was cooked in peri peri, a chilli sauce originating in Mozambique, they bought the restaurant for about £25,000 at the time. They later renamed the restaurant to a present name Nando's, after Duarte’s first name. Within 2 years the restaurant had 4 outlets, 3 in Johannesburg and 1 in Portugal.

Ahha.. the yummy food, a quarter chicken
Nando has initiated in 2002, "the Nando's Art Collection". It has grown to something in which all Nando's employee should take great pride. The artwork that were displayed on the walls of their restaurants was from the largest collection of South African art outside Africa. There said to be more than 5000 works that make up Nando's collection include pieces from undiscovered, emerging and established artists from diverse social and economic backgrounds. It offers opportunity for all artists in South Africa to participate as well as encouraging skills development at every level.Nando's takes particular interest in young, emerging artists. Nando's support has enabled many individuals to focus full-time on their art and as a result, a growing number have gone on to become established artists. Job well done Nando's. I'm a fan.

Advertising Age magazine named Nando's as one of the world's top 30 hottest marketing brands in 2010. As of July 2014, the Nando's restaurant group is ultimately owned by South African businessman Dick Enthoven and his family. Enthoven's son, Robby Enthoven, was responsible for expanding the Nando's chain in the United Kingdom.

Again, Aflah and I were there for lunch with our renovation contractor who happened to pop up close to lunch time on 17th August. I snapped more photos that time. We chose to sit at this unique corner too on Monday, 5th September after the internal audit training with the ISO consultant. Good meals are meant to be shared with good people. And yes, everyone's are good so long that you open up your eyes, stop being judgmental and appreciate that we, human came with an evil and devil character in us. We are not perfect. So, just enjoy each other company with deeper and greater respect towards one another.

Beautiful wood carving, isn't it?
I found about the Legend of Barcelos Cockerel story from Nando’s website. It said that the tale dates back to the 14th century and, like all legends, the details differ depending on who’s doing the telling. Nando’s version are: A pilgrim was passing through the village of Barcelos in Portugal when he was wrongly accused of theft. This was a serious charge for which a guilty verdict meant death. The pilgrim was then brought before the towns judge, who was about to eat a roast cockerel for his dinner. Feeling vulnerable in a strange village, and knowing what his sorry fate might be, the pilgrim pleaded "If I am innocent, may that cockerel get up and crow!" No sooner had he spoken, than the cockerel got up and crowed heartily (well it is a legend) with that, the pilgrim was released and went on his way. The Barcelos cockerel has, to this day, been the symbol of Faith, Justice and Good Fortune. That's the end of Nando's story from my blog. To all Nando's fan worldwide enjoy your meal in Nando's.

Ling, took this for us

We shared a platter that time

A busy month - August 2015

August was always a craziest month ever since I took up a Jurisprudence reading in University Malaya. The exam is scheduled in August last year, this year and 2 more years to come, I hope. There's 5 law papers that I took this year, hoping to pass all. With 4 papers passed on during last year exam (1 compulsory university paper and 3 law papers), I was hoping and pray like anything for me not to resit any of 5 that I sat this year. Please Almighty, pardon my sin, answer my prayer, let me just passed, especially the Land Law. Doesn't matter if  Datin Grace and Miss Sik gave me the lowest passing mark, as long as I don't have to repeat their Land law subject. Majority of my colleague was sighing as soon as we finished exam that day sharing similar thought that we all shall need to resit. It was really really tough. It saddened me the whole weekend.

The cake came when I least expected it.. a surprise birthday party at home while studying leave me speechless!

I did not socialize much for the last 2 years and did no plan to change that mode for the rest of my life, I would think. I have aged much. And despite last Thursday feeling of giving-up reading law, there is something that I cannot deny, Law and me are inseparable. Reading the case law, trying to sit where the judges sit beguile my inner feeling, just the way how I felt when I read the Holy Quran. Judges usually will not take sides, they based their judgement based on law of conscience, just and fairness. It was a similar teaching of the Holy book descended down from Allah since prophet Adam throughout all the prophets till prophet Muhammad. I am simply bless being able to enlighten my knowledge in both subjects.

By the way, 16th August 2015 was my 49th birthday and 17th was Naim's 20th birthday. As I was engrossed with books and revision, I have assigned Nazhif to buy 2 cakes and groceries to be send to the needy home. So I thought the orphans, whoever they are would be enjoying the cakes on Naim and my behalf. But Allah has given me even more ... Nazhif has planned with his father to buy me a meaningful cake and a Domino pizza to celebrate that night. Allah has paid my kind thought for the orphans right on the spot. I indeed felt very much bless with Allah kindness for all the luxury thing that I enjoyed thus far. How could one not be able to appreciate? So, dear Allah, I made a vow to you that I will spend the rest of my life seeking forgiveness for all my sins ever since I was able to start hurting my parents, my siblings, my friends, my relatives and all acquaintances till the day Your call has arrived. Please allow me to enjoy the sorrow as it is too little as compared with what you have given me despite my sins...

I was at this spot for almost 3 weeks

Pity the Nation by Kahlil Gibran

Aerial photo at the night of 29th August 2015

Remarks: on 29th and 30th August 2015, about 200,000 or more Malaysian came out on the street with 1 strong message to the Prime Minister "please step down". We, Malaysian desperately want him to stop from ruining everything. Suffice with what he had done thus far .... pity the nation, we love our Country!

Together we pray, together we unite.. keep your head up Malaysian

"Pity the nation that is full of beliefs and empty of religion.
Pity the nation that wears a cloth it does not weave,
eats a bread it does not harvest,
and drinks a wine that flows not from its own wine-press.

Pity the nation that acclaims the bully as hero,
and that deems the glittering conqueror bountiful.
Pity a nation that despises a passion in its dream,
yet submits in its awakening.

Pity the nation that raises not its voice
save when it walks in a funeral,
boasts not except among its ruins,
and will rebel not save when its neck is laid
between the sword and the block.

Pity the nation whose statesman is a fox,
whose philosopher is a juggler,
and whose art is the art of patching and mimicking.

Pity the nation that welcomes its new ruler with trumpeting,
and farewells him with hooting,
only to welcome another with trumpeting again.

Pity the nation whose sages are dumb with years
and whose strong men are yet in the cradle.
Pity the nation divided into into fragments,
each fragment deeming itself a nation"

Notes: Tomorrow we shall celebrate our 58th Independence Dy from the British.. may the sun comes after the rain.. Pray with us, answer our prayer ya Allah.. please, we have our faith only on you

Lunch at Plan B, Mid Valley

Lunch on 9th August 2015 with Syahirah, Nazhif and Nasrul.

Plan B is a restaurant which serves both western and local cuisine. Syahirah made a choice where to eat while 3 of us were finalizing a deal at the computer shop buying Dell laptop for Nasrul. And surprisingly yes, my apple boy has decided to get a less pricey laptop for his college study as he chose to stay in a hostel. He said it would be safer and wiser if he uses a low end computer (which however he added additional 4 ram so that he would have 12 ram to squeeze in his gamer project). For the record, Nasrul just entered college (MSU) a week ago, on 3rd August 2015 taking a Graphic Design course for his Diploma. It was his choice dully supported and concurred by his father wholeheartedly, who finally takes care of his college fee and his new laptop.

Nasrul and burger is inseparable

Back to the food. It was my first time in Plan B though the restaurant must have been existed long ago in Kuala Lumpur city. I've been told that beside Mid Valley, there are another outlet in Publica, Bangsar Village and Paradigm Mall. There are mix comments about the restaurant in the Trip Advisor, some bad some good. I choose the later. Among the Asian dishes that are on the menu is Nyonya Laksa, Nasi Lemak, Vietnamese Pho, Nasi Kerabu and Nasi Dagang, Ayam Masak Merah, and Saba Percik. Some of the western food are shared in this entry. Kindly take note that there's wine and beers for the alcoholics too.

My choice, Spicy Aglio Olio Sphagettini with Affogato
There's an attractive selections of dessert that is worth trying. As my mind was not 100% there (thinking more about the exam, the books, the acts and the study that I am obligated to do at home), I merely saw arrays of dessert selections on the counter. The cakes that are on display are too difficult to resist. I came to know that there's croissant available in the house. Had so much regret for not paying attention to it. Hence, I believe I should return in the near future.

Char grilled cheese beef burger for Nasrul
After lunch, we went inside Metrojaya for me to get my SK-II supply which nearly out of stock at home. Syahirah used the RM100 voucher from the SK-II purchased for her hair care. Thereafter, we stopped by at an attractive household store that we wished to stay and shop longer. However, someone was giving a long face and we knew that we had to leave before the thunderstorm is starting. But I wish to recommend to anyone who loves burger to give "Char Grilled Beef Burger" a try. It's worth the price, trust me.

Moroccon chicken and Iced Chocolate was what Nazhif ordered

Spicy crabmeat Linguine and Iced Australian Coffee was Syahirah's choice

Most recommended for burger's lover

Eidhul Fitri 1436 Hijrah

17th July 2015 marked the 1st day of Muslim's festive season after a month of fasting. Following Muslim's calendar year, 17th July 2015 is 1st Shawal 1436 Hijrah, means Islam has been existed since 1436 years ago. Let's found how it was celebrated and where my family was.

Masjid at my sister's village, adjacent to Kuantan Airport was where we performed Eid prayer

First and foremost, let us understand what the festive meant for us, the Muslim. Eid ul-Fitr falls on the first day of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar. It marks the end of the month long fast of Ramadan and the start of a feast that lasts up to two days public holiday in Malaysia. Malaysian usually prolong the celebration for the whole month of Shawwal by inviting relatives and friends to the house, mostly for foods. On the last night of the fasting day, usually on day 29, there will be a regional customs or moon sightings that may cause a variation of the date for Islamic holidays, which begin at sundown the day before the date specified for the holiday. The Islamic calendar is lunar (quite accurately with Chinese Lunar Year Calendar) and the days begin at sunset, so there may be 1 day error depending on when the New Moon is first seen. My family was travelling on the last day of Ramdhan, i.e. day 29 to Kuantan (Eid's eve) to celebrate the jouyous festival with my sister. On the eid morning, we went for eid prayer at the her village mosque where all the village people gather and seek forgiveness with each other.

In Malaysia, we wish everyone who celebrating a “Selamat Hari Raya”, meaning wishing you a joyful celebration. In other part of the world, mostly the Arabs will wish their fellow Muslim “Eid Mubarak or Blessed Eid) which becoming a traditional Muslim greeting reserved for use on the festivals of both Eid ul-Adha (sacrificial eid) and Eid ul-Fitr. Eid means "Celebration" in reference to the occasion itself, whilst Mubarak means "blessed". People will greet those who celebrating as for example: "Eid Mubarak, sister!"

Muslims usually wish each other "Eid Mubarak" after performing the Eid prayer. In the social sense people usually celebrate Eid ul-Fitr after Ramadan and Eid-ul-Adha in the month of Dhul Haj (12th and Final Islamic month), by visiting family and exchanging greetings like "Eid Mubarak". This exchange of greetings is a cultural tradition and not part of any religious obligation. In much of South Asia, Eid Mubarak wishes are very common and often accompanied by hugging three times after the Salat al Eid, and that's what we did too.

In Turkey, where 'Eid Mubarak' is not common, the phrase "May your holiday be blessed" is being used. Muslims in other countries, such as Indonesia and Malay language-speaking population (Malaysia, Brunei, & Singapore) use the expression "Selamat Idul Fitri" or "Salam Idul Fitri". This expression is usually accompanied by the popular expression "Minal Aidin wal Faizin", an Arab sentence meaning "May we be sacred one more time and succeeded our fasting". For note of reference, the expression is not recognized by Arabians although it's in the Arabic language. It is a quotation from a poem written by Shafiyuddin Al-Huli during the time Muslims ruled in Al-Andalus.

There will be a spread feast of food on a table at every house. A special foods are prepared and friends or relatives are invited to share the feast during Eid al-Fitr. Eid al-Fitr is an important Islamic holiday for Muslim communities across the world especially those in Muslim country. This event involves many Muslims waking up early and praying either at an outdoor prayer ground or a mosque. People dress in their finest clothes and adorn their homes with lights and other decorations. Gifts and greeting cards are exchanged and children receive presents.  Eid al-Fitr is a joyous occasion but its underlying purpose is to praise God and give thanks to him, according to Islamic belief.

You may observe how the 1st day of Eid was celebrated by my family by looking at few photos that I shared in this entry, not forgotten a compulsory family raya photo 2015.
